Forces at work --
Benevolent and malignant.
Always in conflict,
Always in opposition.
In a war that has lasted
Since before our existence and reality
Were given form.

We have always stood in the shadows --
Watching ...
Waiting ...
Marking time ...
Never truly understanding or participating
In the events of these Forces.
Only knowing that we must play our part in the conflict
To ensure our own survival.
And so we have continued,
Since the inception of our Group,
To plot the course and succession of our species --
Where we have been
And judging where we should go.

All histories and futures in contention
From those unseen Forces that vie between themselves.
This was not our war,
But man has taken up the opposing banners as his own,
And now we are inextricably drawn
Into the controversy.
Have we the strength to force the moment to its crisis?
Surely a reckoning is at hand.
So long as Legions and Powers continue their fray
We will keep watch over the ensuing chaos.
Perhaps this time we will know the outcome
And understand the consequence of our actions,
In a war that was never for
or because of man.
